Problem Definition

Problem Statement

CHLAVM aims to share a variety of information and topics on their website to connect the user to the culture and history of the Hispanic-Canadian community. However, the current website lacks a well-designed user experience and interaction with the user and is not engaging.

Solution

Provide an enhanced user experience and content strategy for the website that will increase the user's interest and encourage them to return to the site and consider making a donation.

Research

Current State Analysis: Content Audit, Heuristic Evaluation

Our team did a current state analysis, content audit, and heuristic evaluation to analyze the UX problems on the CHLAVM website. We used these research findings to reconstruct the site map of the website to present CHLAVM's informative content in a systematic way and to emphasize CHLAVM's strengths through UI design.

Current State Analysis & Heuristic Evaluation

Comparative Analysis, SWOT Analysis

Our team did a comparative analysis and SWOT analysis of CHLAVM. Based on the research findings, we can apply them to the UX optimization of the website. We can leverage the organization's competitive advantages and internal resources to create a unique user experience that enhances the attractiveness of the website, like the VR dome section. Also, we focus on opportunities, such as creating a support local page to promote small businesses that are relevant to the community. This provided an opportunity to strengthen the community.

SWOT Analysis

User Research: Persona

Our team set potential audiences based on our client's future goals and plans and conducted a survey of these audiences to find out what kind of experience they were looking for on the CHLAVM website. Based on the survey results, we created five different personas, detailing their backgrounds, experiences, interests, habits, and frustrations.

Persona

Design

User Experience : Site Map, UX Theme, Voice and Tone, User Journey

With the understanding of the persona and the findings of the current state analysis, we created a new site map, UX themes, voice and tone to provide different user journeys for the five personas in order to meet their needs and expectations.

Site Map

User Journey

Prototype

Based on the optimized site map, UX theme, and user journey, our team rebuilt the website interface to provide a better navigation experience for users. We also used the standard colours of the client's logo for the visual design to make the brand image more clear and attractive.

Recommendations

The optimization suggestions based on the research results can be categorized into four major directions. Our client can follow these four points to complete the optimization work step by step.

Reflection

This project gave our team the opportunity to work with a real client to understand their needs, analyze current problems, and propose solutions. It also gave us a better understanding of how the UX research and design methods we learned can be applied to real-world cases. The course teacher and client both praised the project highly. After the project, the client also offered our team an internship opportunity to work within their organization.
